Revenge, retribution, retaliation... same or different?

Its not about the actual action it is why you are doing it. Revenge is doing it out of spite, retribution is doing it in inspiration, and retaliation is doing something in revolt. So if someone hits you and you punch them back, it could be anyone of this, just the way you consider it in your head.
