American history question. Can you check my answer to see if it's correct or not?

That sounds right. I learned that the U.S. and Soviet Union followed the policy of M.A.D., Mutually Assured Destruction. They knew that if they were to attack each other, their nuclear weapons would destroy both nations. This would definitely be considered a massive retaliation. D sounds right.
