I'm filing an SS-8 form with IRS. What protection do I have against retaliation from former employer?

Are there laws against retaliatory behavior when a misclassified 1099 "contractor" files an SS-8? They can't fire me because I don't work there anymore. But I'm concerned that they may slander, sue, etc.
